I Find It Absolutely Hilarious That Most People In The Music Industry Ignore This Simple Concept…

Here’s what I’m talking about. Most people start out in this industry with a dream. We all did. Some of us wanted to be the rock star, others the big shot executive. Then… they pursue that dream, run into a few road-blocks, and then quit. Then those same people who quit, start to spread rumors about how the music industry is “unfriendly”, “cut-through”, “tough”, and that it’s hard to make money! I don’t know about you, but I think that’s THE funniest thing in the world!!! Ok… so maybe my sense of humor isn’t all that great, but when you get silly questions from people trying to break into the music industry all day long, it’s starts to become funny. Anyway, you want to know the concept that each of these “unsuccessful” people is missing? It’s pretty easy…. To make it in this business YOU HAVE TO GET IN FRONT OF THE PEOPLE THAT WILL HELP YOU MAKE MONEY, SELL YOUR MUSIC, AND PROMOTE WHATEVER IT IS THAT YOU DO. Sorry for the caps, I promise I wasn’t yelling – just trying to get the point across to you. They say that showing up is 50% of the battle. In the music business it’s more like 98%. You have to get in front of real people, in real environments, at real events. And one of the absolute best places you can start is a simple music conference. There’s tons of them around, and they’re not hard at all to get to. This is how you meet people who actually put music into movies, TV commercials, and onto artists albums. Plain and simple. So… you could either go and meet the people that will actually get your music placed face-to-face (by the way, they’re dying to meet people like you) or you could send emails and demos that never get responded to.
